What's the difference between "desparing" and "disappointed"?  What's the difference amont "Particular, special,peculiar, specific" they confuse me. Thanks for replying.

What's the difference between "desparing" and "disappointed"? Despairing - this is much stronger than disappointed. You have no hope. When you are disappointed, you simply wish something had turned out differently than it did.

I looked on Merriam-Webster's online site: www.m-w.com Of these, I think that paricular and specific are the most interchangeable.

Particular: of, relating to, or being a single person or thing

Special: 1 : distinguished by some unusual quality; especially : being in some way superior <our special blend>

Peculiar: characteristic of only one person, group, or thing - but also odd, curious, eccentric
