Some questions on article uses

Hi. Please help. Sorry for two of the examples not being the complete sentences.

1. Does the first definite article before "successful' automatically apply to the phrase "satisfactory academic progress"?

... is contingent upon the successful performance of assigned duties, satisfactory academic progress, and the needs of the Seminary.

2. Could we put the articles in parentheses and still be correct?

The two reasons are the following: 1) (a?) lack of faith in God and 2) (the?) fear of the enemy

3. I think we need to put the indefinite article "an" before the word "abundance" in this example, but would it also be correct if it were not there?

... describes a time of such an abundance of crops.
