Hi,

1. Which one is correct? Action words seem to be involved.

I am playing soccer at school.

I am playing soccer in school.

2. When I am making points in an essay, what should I use?

First of all, ... Secondly, ... Thirdly, ...

First,... Second,... Third, ...

3. Can you please tell me what the underlined parts are grammatically?

Time to read. The children wait in anticipation, fingers on the first all line, eyes bright.

1. Both at and in are acceptable; at is preferable because in can be taken to mean inside.

2. First,... Second,... Third. -- The other form, while acceptable, seems wordy and rather pompous to me

For no. 3, would you say these truncated versions are used often in the real world? I am not too familiar with terms like a 'truncated nonfinite clause' or a 'truncated prepositional phrase', but I do think I can guess what they might mean. Are these truncations done often in the real writing world?
