Some questions

1. I have this bewilderment/confusion regarding the usage of the word "early." When I am comparing the two things/instances, the usage of it seems somewhat confusing. Is this right?

I want to go there early.

I want to go there earlier than the last time.

2. Is this right in that it can accompany an article here? I think it is. Then, tell me what the phrase "a bit of" is. A quantifier?
