Is the mushroom an animal or a vegetable? OK, but I prefer it without the indefinite articles.

Is this mushroom an animal or a vegetable? OK

I hesitate to disagree with Clive, but I think "Is a mushroom animal or vegetable" needs an "an" before "animal" --> Is a mushroom an animal or vegetable.

Also the odd thing about "Is this mushroom an animal or a vegetable?" is that it makes it sound like some mushrooms could be animals and some could be vegetables, and you need to know which one THIS mushroom is. All mushrooms will b

I was using the words 'animal' and 'vegetable' in their form as adjectives, eg Is this animal, vegetable or mineral?
