Some phrases

Hi,
Could anybody explain and shed some lights on the following underlined parts? It's from the famous novel Frankenstein by Marry Shelley.
"It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. (1)
His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. (2)
At length lassitude succeeded to the tumult I had before endured, and I threw myself on the bed in my clothes...."

Thank you in advance,

This archaic English, but my comments are as follows: I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. (1) His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. " You need to remember the context – this is man who has created a monster, a lifeless monster.

  • The monster’s limbs were the correct size, relative to his body.

This is apparently just before he brings the monster to life. This is a trying moment for the doctor, the culmination of all his work, so he emotionally and physically exhausted. He has the monster pieced together on a table, or the floor, and he has set up the electrical apparatus that will bring it to life. But rather than proceed with the experiment, he is overcome with emotion and collapses
