Some phrases

Hi,

These abstracts are taken from a mother's letter to her son on his first day of his school, but I can't figure out the following italicized parts:

"Because you are my youngest, I had learned a few things by the time you came along. I found out that the seemingly endless days of babyhood are gone like lightning."

"As the summer wound down and more frequent quarrels erupted between you and your siblings, I was looking forward to today."

I'd be so grateful if someone help me with the mentioned parts to be clarified.

Those are extracts , not abstracts, Iman. Came along = were born As the summer wound down = as the summer approached its end
