Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others, however, believe there are better alternative ways of reducing crime. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Crime is considered the most serious problem in every country that is why law enforcers are trying to find the best way to mitigate this issue. Although there are many people who believe that increasing the periods for offenders in prison is the best way to reduce this issue, others think there are better methods which help offenders and reduce crime.

On the one hand, giving criminals longer prison sentence is the most common punishment to decrease the crime rate in most countries. As there are some benefits from doing so. Firstly, spending a long period in prison is a preferable occasion to rehabilitate a prisoner. For example, someone who has committed rape will need a long time in prison in order to realize what is right or wrong when he does the behavior. In addition, a long time prison sentence will remind people, there will be more pain they have to suffer if they commit a crime.

On the other hand, some people believe that staying in such environment for a long time, would let offenders meet other criminals who can encourage them to another crime. Community service, such as a metro aids, traffic enforcer and handicraft is one alternative to this problem. This opportunity gives criminals a friendly environment to re-educate, to do productive works for the society which could help them come back to normal life. Also, this is a right time for them to find the value of living, as well as their skills and talents.

In conclusion, I think there is a need for us to reduce the crime issue which is destroying our world. Besides, the government should continue to apply other better methods which will effectively reduce the crime rate.
