Essay & Composition Writing

Some people think that physical strength is important for success in sport, while other people think that mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Traditionally, it is believed that physical capabilities are the key to success in any sports competitions, while others consider mental health is uttermost important. I contend that to win any sports games, the athletes need to be both physically fit and mentally strong.

To begin with, physical strength is regarded as the prerequisite for the success of sports tournaments as most types of sports require the sportsman with strong health and stamina which enable them to overcome the adversity that appears during the competition. Take football players as an example, to score as many goals as possible, they need to be strong and enduring from the beginning till the end of the match so that they can kick the ball to the net exactly. In addition to that, being fit boosts the chance for the athletes to win the games. For instance, a muscular and powerful physique boxer would definitely defeat the opponent who is less strong and fit.

Despite that, it is obvious that mental endurance is undoubted of massive importance as it also contributes to the success of sportsmen. Without mental stamina, sportspeople could not win the games with only physical strength. As the aforementioned example of the boxer, to ace the competition, apart from his fit body, he also needs to have a healthy mind. Besides, a strong will would be considered to be one of the predominant factors for sports achievements. For example, Anh Vien in the marathon race, though her appearance is less strong and physical than other runners, with her determined will, she finally won the first prize in the 2019 race.

To conclude, physical fitness and mental toughness would be integrating to finalize the success of players in sports tournaments and either should be considered to be less important.
