Hardly can anyone deny the increasing importance of learning practical skills in contemporary societies. Although it is argued that adults find it is more efficient to study the skills by themselves, I am of the opinion that teacher-based trainings are more significant.
On the one hand, there are a wide range of reasons why it is advantageous for adults to study the skills by themselves, one of which is that adults like employees or employers are highly conscious about the fierce competition in the workforce. To be more specific, in order to obtain the employability, not only do workers have sufficient academic background but they also need to possess appropriate practical skills. Consequently, they have to equip themselves with mastery of practical skills by self-learning methods. Besides, adults have the different characteristic such as self-orientation, self-direction, which make them suitable for learning new skills by themselves. In other words, adults can set their own targets and strive to achieve them simultaneously. As a result, they can gradually study by their own when they have clear objectives in place. For instance, many Vietnamese women acquire state-of-the-art cookery ability via practicing the recipes at home instead of attending specialized cooking classes.
On the other hand, I am convinced that it is more significant to have a creditable school curriculum to master the skills. In other words, it is well-known that adults are up to their neck with different duties, obligations. They have to shoulder huge workload and family responsibilities, which can distract them from paying full attention to committed targets. Therefore, it will be hard for them to commit to skill proficiency. Besides, tailored training courses are well designed to equip workers with new fads in the labor market and have backup plans available to ensure that workers can obtain prerequisite knowledge for their jobs. This can lead to the fact that workers still can achieve required practical skills timely, easily. For example, adults whose children are under unpredicted hospitalization still continue their studying with the assistance from the well-designed curriculum
While some argue that learning practical skills by their own is easier, I hold the belief that studying with teachers is much more efficient.
