Opinions differ as to whether the University should allow students to choose to study subjects in which they are interested or students only allow to study subjects which help for their future. I do think both views are reasonable as each has its own merits.
It is certainly true that if students are free to choose what they learn, they will be interested in their studies. Passion is an essential element to help students learn more efficiently. For instance, a student who likes art will be keen on learning art and promote all his possibilities in art. Besides, we cannot predict what is necessary in the future. Thus, if students have huge expert knowledge in the area in which they are interested, they will have more chances to have a better job.
Nevertheless, there are several reasons why students should study subjects like science, technology, etc. Nowadays, in every field, people need to have a good qualification if they want to have chances to find a job with a high salary. For example, in the future, when they will live in an acrimoniously competitive environment, all of them must know how to use modern machines. As a result, students need to learn all of the necessary knowledge and related to their field in university. Moreover, the knowledge which students learn at university does not only need for their job, but it also needs for daily life. Such as, if students learn about electricity, they will use them to repair electrical appliances at home.
In conclusion, I believe that in addition to the many benefits of learning the favorite subjects at university. There are several upsides to study all useful subjects related to science or technology at university regarding have opportunities to find a good job and need for daily life.
