On the one hand, there are various reasons why people believe that everyone should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future. Firstly, the fields such as science and technology might provide countless job opportunities, high-paid jobs, career progression which could improve quality of life for students who take them. Another reason for this is that by forcing people to choose particular university subjects as well as investing high technology in education and medicine, the government can ensure economic growth which provides citizen a better life.
In spite of these arguments, I believe that everyone should be free to choose their preferred areas of study. Working in their passionate aspects might motivate them to create more innovative ideas which benefit for community. Moreover, nobody can actually predict which areas of knowledge will be the most useful to the society in the future. Finally, we probably need more students who pursuit art, music, history and philosophy. This is due to the fact that these subjects devote to the beauty of life, which makes people happier.
In conclusion, although it might seem sensible for universities to focus only on the key subjects, I personally support the current system in which people have the right to study whatever they want.
