Some people think students should study the science of food and how to prepare it. Others think that school time should be used in learning important subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion? Give reasons for your answer, and include any...

Would it be an optimal option if students spent time learning food science and the process of making food? This question has sparked a heated debate when it comes to the effectiveness of quality school time. My view is that despite the importance of food science, I am of the opinion that other academic subjects also play a significant role to shape students' well-rounded mindset and lay a solid foundation for a brighter future.

Admittedly, those who advocate the significance of the food science and how to prepare it because of the health benefits of this subject. Indeed, if students absorb food science knowledge, they are more prone to conduct more research to have deep knowledge about the valuable nutrients in their daily meals. For example, high protein in tofu and mushroom would be perfect substitutes for red meat, so the students can learn how to prepare their simple meals with these organic ingredients. Therefore, when learning how to prepare healthy food, the students may collect the most nutritious ingredients and avoid processed food containing a high amount of chemical preservatives. As a result, they are likely to follow the eating healthy lifestyle and pay heed to their general health when they become adults.

Nonetheless, I assert that the other important subjects bring about the benefits and should be prioritized in the school curriculum. While the science subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, and biology provide appropriate knowledge to broaden their horizon about the scientific principles and pay the way for their future jobs if they want to become physicians, mathematicians, or biologists. Music and art trigger the students' curiosity and creativity to develop their right brain function and these subjects contribute a lot to balancing their lives with more colorful perspectives. That is a testament to why learning a wide variety of subjects is more conducive for students in the future.

In conclusion, I do believe that the science of food and learning about food processing are both important to form a healthy lifestyle. Other important subjects play an integral part in students' lives. Therefore, I think students should learn both food science and other important subjects at school.
