In this modern era, environmental problems have always been a controversial topic due to their tremendous impact on humanity. Many people hold the belief that the most important one is the extinction of species of flora and fauna, while others suggest there are other crucial issues that should be addressed. This essay will look into both sides of the argument and then explain why I side with the latter viewpoint.
To begin with, pollution is among the greatest problems that we are currently facing. A supportive reason for this is the increasing industrialization occurring in almost every corner of the world, along with other inventions in all aspects of life. For example, with the construction of more and more factories, the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere has been higher than ever before and is likely to reach an alarming figure in the near future.
What is more, climate change is also becoming a worrisome issue that requires special attention. One illustration of this is Antarctica, where ice has been melted because of the sudden rise in global temperature, resulting in a reduction in its total area. Furthermore, high temperatures tend to create long periods of droughts in countries near the equator and consequently, many people have to suffer from a shortage of water for everyday needs and irrigation.
However, there are many advocates of the view that the loss of many species is of paramount importance. It is argued that since all the species have spent thousands of years to develop and co-exist together in harmony, the disappearance of some of them will lead to the collapse of the ecosystem's balance and considerably affect our lives. For instance, pandas are considered as an endangered species in China, and many efforts have been made to prevent their extinction, thus reducing the risk of more species loss.
To sum up, it is reasonable to say that the disappearance of many species plays an irreplaceable role in our environmental concerns, however, that would be unwise not to include other problems. In my opinion, each of those issues should be carefully examined to propose the most suitable method to tackle them.
