Some people say that it is impossible for a country to be both economically successful and have a clean environment. To what extent do you agree or disagree.

In our modern world, achieving sustainable development has always been known as a heated issue among governments. It is claimed that a nation can not succeed in both economic and environmental protection. While this may work to a certain extent, I would argue that we can achieve both. To start with, there are numerous reasons why people who do not find a successful economy can come along with a clean environment, as industrial development requires a large number of production. This will lead to an increase in emission and waste disposal emitted from the manufactory to the environment. For instance, in 2016 a factory in Vietnam called Formosa discharged toxic industrial waste into the sea through their underwater drainage pipes. As the result, numerous fish died and the water environment demolished significantly. Additionally, the ignorance of the government before these actions has played an important role in environmental degradation. Clearly, in some countries, having a clean environment is not as important as a successful economy. On the other hand, I still believe it is possible to achieve both targets. Firstly, renewable energy sources like solar power, wind energy, and biofuels are being invested to replace finite and polluting fossil fuel sources. This will also allow us to preserve the environment and while developing the industry. For example, Iceland is the worldwide leader when it comes to renewable energy, as almost 100% of its energy coming from geothermal and hydroelectric power plants. Moreover, since tourism paces its evolution as an industry in many countries, attention to the environment is becoming increasingly more important. It is a way to raise awareness of environmental values and finance protection. Therefore, it is understandable why people think it possible to maintain our development without damaging the environment. To conclude, although some people think that a country can not both achieve economic targets and successfully preserve the environment, I personally believe that sustainable development will be the next destination for every country.
