Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Give reasons for your answer and...

While it has been claimed that there is a pernicious influence of adverting on purchase things, the others believe it presents useful information about brand-new products. In my view, it is more likely to have a harmful impact.

On the one hand, there are numerous advantages of advertising. Firstly, Advertising is a key part of modern business. It is not only a way for companies to tell customers about their products and services but also informs them about the available options. The second benefit is that advertising is a creative industry that employs many people. Without it, we would have less choice when looking for work; subsequently, there would be higher unemployment. Finally, it should also be stated that advertising is a form of modern art; never the less, people enjoy adverts due to the actors, flashy color and their entertainment value.

However, I point out that advertising still introduces some adverse effect. The main factor is advertising manipulates people. To be clear, it aims to persuade and convince people that buying a product will make them happier, wiser, and more appealing. Thus, advertisers focus on selling a brand image, by very effectively using glamorous or successful people. A further reason is we now live in a consumer culture which is constantly persuading us to follow a new state of the art trend. We are encouraged to associate certain brands with a higher social status. In addition, advertisers often aim their marketing at children, due to young people being easily influenced or affected by advertisements. Essentially, offspring will put pressure on their parents to buy them things.

In conclusion, I would argue that the drawbacks of advertising outweigh the benefits.
