In recent years, some individuals argue that domestic waste has yet to be sufficiently recycled. For them, the optimal solution to this problem is to make legalized demands. Although I concur with this opinion, its drawbacks can not be ignored.

On the one hand, the legalization of recycling can encourage people to take action to reuse their waste. In doing so, they will have a sense of responsibility that recycling is no longer done of their own accord but a compulsory duty. Otherwise, those who fail to comply with this requirement will suffer stringent punishment, which may exist in various forms. Take Singapore as an outstanding example. In this country, the citizens must charge a large sum of money if they dump rubbish on the road. Hence Singapore is regarded as one of the cleanest cities worldwide.

On the other hand, over and above making it a legal requirement, there are many other factors underlying successful recycling, not the least among which is citizens’ awareness. As a consequence of knowledge absence, the government’s consistent imposing laws on recycling might be counterproductive because a group of people possibly consider it as an irrational and unnecessary obligation. On the contrary, when they are well-informed of the significance of recycling, immediate and proper actions to reduce the impact of waste from their homes on the environment and surroundings will follow.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that although the legalization of recycling is not the only potential measure, it still considerably contributes to the triumph of waste management. Besides, the government should raise public awareness to maximize efficiency.
