Essay & Composition Writing

Some people claim that many things that children were taught at school are a waste of time while others argue that everything learned at school is useful at some time. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

It is true that school time plays a vital role in everyone’s life, however many people believe that many subjects taught in school are unnecessary and time-consuming. From my perspective, these lessons, on some certain aspects, would still benefit the students.

Perhaps, supporters of the former opinion may give out several reasons mentioned below. Firstly, it is true that there are several things presented in the curriculum that would be just applied in some jobs. Towards this extent, music and painting in Viet Nam can be good examples because many parents reckon that learners of these subjects have to follow a singer or an artist career, which, according to them, are useless and can not make money. Moreover, many students already have their dreams and passion about a particular job, which only requires knowledge of certain fields. Hence, they are likely to be willing to sacrifice time spent on other subjects to just focus on their major ones.

However, I share the idea of people who believe that students should acquire as much knowledge in school as possible because it will benefit them at some time later. Obviously, there is no guarantee that such knowledge would not be useful on other occasions. For instance, it is demonstrated that if a man learns to play piano, not only his sense of music is improved, but also his cognitive skill and reflective skill are; therefore, enhancing his academic performance. In addition, by learning a wide range of knowledge and skills, you actually offer yourself a better opportunity to perfect yourself and thus, cultivate your appearance to the others. It is obvious that if your knowledge is limited within particular fields, it makes you harder to integrate into the nowadays world, which requires a flexibility and diversity of knowledge and skills.

All in all, I once again restate my outlook that everything taught in school is worth learning and students should acquire them as much as possible.
