Some people believe that reading stories from a book is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that many people argue that it is more beneficial for youngsters to read stories than to spend time watching television or playing computer games. In my opinion, I believe that reading books is better for children because of positive and negative reasons.

There are several positive reasons to explain why reading books can bring more benefits for children. Firstly, spending time reading bedtime stories is an excellent way to strengthen the bond of various families. This is because parents can have quality time with children by reading their favorite fairytales which help youngsters grow closer and more open to their parents. Secondly, young children are able to develop a range of abilities due to reading books. In particular, their creativity and literacy appreciation skills can grow significantly by imagining every detail of stories during the reading process.

On the other hand, watching television and playing video games negatively affect several aspects of children's development. First of all, children addicted to these activities are prone to health risks such as obesity and eyesight issues because they tend to sit still for many hours without physical exercise and keep a close distance near screens constantly. Another factor is that these activities possibly discourage real interaction between children and family members and their friends. They solely devote their time to the virtual world on screens and are unable to grow essential communication skills.

In conclusion, I believe that reading books is a healthy activity that is able to enhance family interaction and develop a variety of skills for youngsters while watching television and playing games are detrimental to their health and social life.
