Some people believe that learning a foreign language is no longer necessary because they can be translated instantly thanks to modern technology and applications To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In today's modern society, the advent of translation software has aroused controversy that it is pointless to learn a new tongue as today we can instantly convert any foreign language into our mother tongue by taking advantage of websites, namely Google Translate or other applications. From my perspective, I dissent from that proposition since technology is merely a supplement for our studies.

On the one hand, it is irrefutable that the expense of machine translation is an absolute bargain as opposed to human translation. To illustrate, if you want your article translated by a professional interpreter, you must pay a bulk of money for every page, but oftentimes we only require a point of matter or specific concepts. In this circumstance, the machine translation system is more trustworthy and efficient. Furthermore, web-based translation application tools are also facilitating people who want to master or grasp a second language by providing them with a handy solution to their linguistic barriers. For instance, thanks to portable devices, young and old today can effortlessly gain access to translation programs that assist them in communicating with foreign nationals without being informed of their languages.

On the other hand, I deem that people should avoid being over-reliant on computer translation for several reasons. In the first place, communication is a sophisticated process that is not solely used to deliver messages but also to convey feelings toward one another. To set an example, when students from overseas speak with their native friends, they have to utilize applications for translating, which interrupt their conversation and might trigger bad sentiments in others. Another point to consider is that translation devices are not always completely accurate. One explanation for this is that these tools can only translate word by word and may overlook sentence context. Consequently, when it comes to academic papers or literary works, learners may not be provided with an accurate version.

To reiterate, despite the fact that innovative technology has made it accelerated and effortless to interpret any language, I am still of the opinion that it does not mean we no longer need to dedicate time to pick up an international language.
