The root cause of committing crimes is a controversial debate with different viewpoints. While many people claim that bad innate characteristics could make one turn to crime, I personally believe that social problems and poverty are the main cause of one's crime commitment.
On the one hand, a crime may be a consequence of negative inborn characteristics. This had led to bad behaviors or wrong awarenesses towards society. For instance, a student having bad characteristics such as laziness and aggression tends to bully others at school, and they are more likely to commit crimes afterward. Because of this fact, it is evident that individual's negative nature can have an impact on their crime happening.
From my point of view, however, the main cause of crime resulted from socio-economic problems such as poverty and overpopulation. As a matter of fact, overpopulation and poverty problems are increasingly affected people's life and might lead them to confess to crimes. One can become a wrongdoer if they cannot have a job to afford their lives due to the lack of job opportunities as a result of overpopulation. Another fact worth noting is that poverty also lead one's life to the road of crime as a person are short of money, so they might violate the law by committing such petty crimes as shoplifting and pickpocketing or even serious crimes such as mugging and armed robbery. As a result, researchers have recently pointed out that numerous crimes are socio-economic issues related.
In conclusion, while a number of people advocate that a person's nature is the primary cause of crimes, my own view on the matter is that they are stem from social issues and poverty.
