Some of them Vs. Some of which

"The monitors, some of which are broken, display information received from the satellite"

Can some of which and some of them be used interchangeably? If not, when do you use which?

No... unless you write that clause as a non-restrictive appositive (leaving out the "are"):

"The monitors, some of them broken, display information received from the satellite."
