some of the only whale sharks in captivity

This area is also home to the world's second largest aquarium--Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. There visitors can see some of the only whale sharks in captivity.

Hi,

What does "only" in the above mean to you? I think it's contradictory in meaning to "some" in the previous part of the sentence, isn't it?
By the way, does someone know the Japanese "Churaumi" refer to? Thanks.

It's the equivalent of "some of the few" -- It emphasizes that there are not many in captivity.
