1) He had to beg so that some of his friends would help him.

2) He had to beg before some of his friends would help him.


I think these sentences could be used in a context where

None of his friends helped him before he begged.


But could they be used if certain of his friends had helped him before he begged and he had to beg in order for some other of his friends to help him?
