Grammar

some-much

I must have read it in some book . what does "some " mean here?

There were some four hundred people at the concert. "some" seems "about" here ?

I don't see much of them these days? Can you tell me an example of the subject-substance here?(them)

Do you go to the cinema much? Why we didnt use "many", going to cinema is countable,I think.

Difference:

Have you got some friends in Britain?---------------Have you got any friends in Britain?

I dont like some pop music. ----------------------I dont like any pop music.

1." Have you got some friends in Britain?" Not correct

2. "Have you got any friends in Britain?" OK

Hi Inchoaknowledge,

I think number 1 is also ok.

When you use in this sentence some, you expect someone to have a few friends. I mean that you think the man has a few friends.

But, in number 2, you expect someone to have very few/no

Also, regarding this: Do you go to the cinema much? Why we didnt use "many", going to cinema is countable,I think.

The building that movies/films are show in can be called a cinema, and in that case it's countable. But "going to the cinema" is an activity. Do you do that a lot? Do you do it much? Do you go to the cinema often? All are roughly equal to "Do you go to the cinema much?"

Some 400 = implies 400 plus; about 400 could be more or less.

"I dont like some pop music." No (do not use some in negative sentences.)

This is not entirely correct. We can certainly say “I like listening to Elton John’s music but I don’t like some of his songs”.
