Abbie,

I wouldn't call MRSA "the" hospital super-bug. VRE (Vancomycin resistant enterococci) is considered worse than MRSA. Vancomycin is "the" big-gun when it comes to antibiotics...to the point where it will kill the natural bacteria in a patient's mouth/intestines. People who colonize bacteria resistant to Vanc are very very ill.

0 The result of vanc wiping out the normal flora leads to an overgrowth of c. difficile which in turn causes pseudomembranous colitis, a serious infection of the intestinal mucosa. 0-

0Uhhhhh, no! Vancomycin (by mouth) is one of the TREATMENTS for Clostridium Difficile colitis (pseudomembranous colitis). As a rule it does not cause C. Diff colitis. (Flagyl is the other treatment for this)02br

What happens if a person tries not to cough and therefore doesn't use the splint, the body's natural defense for getting rid of possible infection from the throat or lungs (coughing) is impeded and the person retains and sends the infectio
