Some grammatical questions:)

The following are my questions. Thanks for your help:)

Q1:
The follwing extract is from an article titled "It's Time to Pony Up " from one of Newsweek's columns, called "Techtonic Shifts".
Here are my questions:

Yet the prevailing wisdom in solicon valley today is that everything on the Internet must be free. Enslaved by this dogma, tech companies keep beding themselves into pretzels trying to invent ways to monetize their traffic.
1: what is meant by "techtonic",which I was not able to look up in Google?
2:"bending themselves into pretzels"="working hard"?
3:Valley-Speak is a website or something else?

Q2: In terms of meaning, A1=A2, B1=B2, C1=C2,am I correct?
A1: Community means a group of people who live in the same area.
A2: Community means a group of people living in the same area.
B1: We meet once a month to discuss community problems.
B2: We meet once a month, discussing comunity problems.
C1: Going to trade fairs is an ideal opportunity to size up your competition.
c2: To go trade fairs is an ideal opportunity to size up your competition.

Q3: The conception of the book took five minutes, but writing it took a year.

Here, "writing it" can not be replaced by "to write it",am I right?

Q4: The plan was brilliant in its conception and failed because of lack of money.
Could it be put this way- the conception of the plan was brilliant and failed because of lack of money.

Q5: In the meeting,voters raised concerns about health care.
Here, concerns means several issues or problems about healt care rather than a certain feeling of worry?

P.S. Can you correct my writing, if it's not correct or idiomatic?
