Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages

Nowadays, globalization plays a crucial part for the developme of each nation’s economy, which shows the importance of learning foreign languages. Many specialists recommend that students should embark on learning a non-native language at primary school instead of middle school. In spite of some drawbacks, the recommendation seems to bring learners huge advantages, which completely outweigh these disadvantages.

On one hand, starting to learn a foreign language at such age may give students a lot of pressure leading to struggle in learning process. Nevertheless, learners at such age still have trouble with their own mother-tongue language, adding a new language at this early will cause more obstacles for young learners. For instance, children at primary school only concentrate on simple subjects such as Math, Reading, Literature, with the new addition of a non-native language, children may have more difficulties in learning, which proves the ineffectiveness of this measure.

On the other hand, beginning to study a new language at this period is completely advantageous for young learners. Firstly, studying a foreign language at such age will contribute to a great foundation of language, which enhances the linguistic ability of pupil. Secondly, taking part in learning a new language in primary school will give learners more chances to use the language, whereas secondary learners may find it hard to spend time on because of too many subjects at school, so it brings learners a lot of benefits such as pronouncing word accurately or familiarizing with the language. For example, parents all around the world take their children to foreign language classes, which gives children more chances to attach with the new language and improve linguistic skill.

To conclude, learning a complete new language in primary schools still has noticeable drawbacks towards learners but it is still extremely beneficial to children.
