Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages.

It is a long lasting debate whether students should begin learning a foreign language at primary or at secondary school. From my point of view, there are many advantages as well as disadvantages for children to start studying a new language at primary. However, the advantages seem to outweighs the disadvantages.

There are many advantages for students to start learning a foreign language at primary school. Firstly, children will have more time to sharpen their new language. The sooner they study, the more knowledge they can learn. Secondly, students’ brain can absorb languages better at the young age. Many experiments from top-notch professors in the world have proved that children’s brain can absorb language most efficiently at the age between 5 to 10. At that age in primary school, children can learn a new language very fast, making both students & teachers spend less time on studying to have more joys.

However, it is undoubted that there are some problems for children when they are forced to study a new language at their primary school. For example, students have to cut their playing time to spend more time on language learning at primary school. The imbalance between studying time and playing time can decrease the physical health and study efficiency in children. In order to help children surpass this problem, schools and parents should have an appropriate learning schedule for children to study a language not only more efficiently but also more sustainably.

After considering carefully between advantages and disadvantages of studying a foreign language at primary school, I am convinced that the advantages of this issue outweigh the disadvantages. Students can utilize their brain efficiency in processing new language at the young age to study language faster and earlier. The disadvantages in the possible imbalance between studying and playing schedule can be prevented.
