Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantage?

In recent time, the general tendency has been that children should start studying a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. This phenomenon has surely carried along with its both benefits and costs. In my own perspective, it is necessary to look at both sides before forming an opinion.

It is undeniable that the most obvious benefit gained from this scenario is the ability to acquire knowledge quickly and to use it in natural ways at a young age. The children can easily learn about new concepts because they have no worries about anything. Moreover, from 6 to 9 years old, this is the best period for children's brain to memorize new words and their meanings. In addition, children practice taught language with no shy and talk freely without any fear of making mistakes.

Regardless of these advantages, one negative impact is adding another subject to children's busy schedule may create unnecessary pressure. Present education system requires pupils to study many subjects such as mathematics, history, literature, geography. As a result, children have no time to relax or to participate in physical activities. Furthermore, letting children start learning a foreign language too early my prevent them from choosing what they want. For example, children can select to learn Japanese instead of Chinese. Because when children are elder, they know what they like and want.

To sum up, I would like to say that society needs to be aware of both positive and negative results before any actions that can alter the status quo. Because one mistake in the present may cause serious consequences in the future.
