I can't agree that it works with intelligence. We get wiser as we get old, we get savvier, we gain more knowledge.

But your intelligence is simply a quality you have. It doesn't increase as you get older - it may become more and more apparent how intelligent you are, but you don't expect a 7-year-old child to simply be more intelligent than a 4-year-old child.
