Some + Article ?

Please look at the following question.

With some advance _____, Pamela will surely save a lot of time and money on her trip to Asia in December.

(A) plan (B) planning

Its correct answer is (B)planning. They've explained to me since there was no article in with phrase, it should be "(B) planning. But I think why it needs an article. There is "some"."Some" can be replaced for "article". Is it okay if we write as "with some an advance plan"? I don't think so. How can we use some together with"article"? Could you explain to me why it should be (B)planning?

Thanks in advance.

Only because the collocation is 'advance planning', not 'advance plan'.
