Some and any

Hi,

1# ' I have some water left in the jug.Do you want some\any more?'
Can both of the choices be used in this sentence?
Is this way of offering considered informal?

Thanks.

Top answer

Any is usually used in the negative: I don't have any more. Some is more natural in your question here. The use of any could imply that you expect a negative response.
