Solutionise

Dear all,

could anybody tell me what the word "solutionise" means:

Rivets made from certain aluminium alloys (e.g. BS L37) shall be set only in a freshly solutionised condition.

Solutionising is a heat treatment as described above. heating to mid way between the solvus and solidus and maintaining until a homogenous structure is formed. For BS L97 (2024) thats about 495 Celcius. Its important to note that the treatment is temporary and the material will (or Should) start to revert to its original state after about 2 hours. to delay reversion you can freeze the rivets for u
