00I've been asking myself how 'software' is being used as a countable word. I mean, for example, you can say "housewares", but I would never say "I bought 01i01b00a02b00 houseware02i00". Do you think the word software is developing the same way? i.e. the word

0 I cannot understand how 01i00software 02i00can be a countable noun. Is 01i00hardware02i00 a count noun? No. If 01i00hardware 02i00were countable, one would be correct to say "Hey, John, I have a new hardware. D'you want to see it?" However, I must admit that the entire concept of countability is being phased out.02br

0 I think it would be correct to say 01i00It's a good software program02i00 and it seems that many people simply drop the word 'program' because they consider it redundant. Technically, software is uncountable but why not make it countable? I learned that nouns like accommodation and food are always uncountable but I think this has changed too. 0-

00I did a quick check on Google for "01b00a02b00 good software". In most of the results (on the first two pages), the word 'software' had been used as an adjective (e.g. 'a good software program'). Where it wasn't, the author appeared to be a non-native speaker of English. To me, if a native speaker of English is going to drop

0Thank you everyone. I would say 'It's good software' for the time being, which sounds perfect to me as a learner. I don't know how long it could be. A week, a year or forever. It's great to see where the trend is going as long as the direction is right.02br

00I think software is practically always uncountable, and I always use it as an uncountable noun.02br
