Hi teachers:D
While reading an article about 'Soft Drugs in the Netherlands', I've come up with the following sentence which I don't understand well due to the word 'lifetime prevalence'. I've looked into a dictionary already but I cannot grasp what it means. Please help me in easy wording. Thanks in advance^^
This is in spite of the fact that historically, the US has aggressively tried to precent any and all drug use by setting severe penalties for using or selling illegal drugs, even soft ones. The lifetime prevalence of marijuana use means the rate at which people use it at some point in their lives. Accroding to the lates comparative figures, in the Netherlands the rate is a little more than half that of the United States.
You don't need to look it up in a dictionary because that sentence IS the definition. The lifetime prevalence of marijuana use means the rate at which people use it at some point in their lives . It seems to be a special term that is used in this article, so they define it in the text.

It seems to be a special term that is used in this article, so they define it in the text. They don't expect that most people would know what it means.
