Social Register

Hello!

I saw on the net that Social Register is a list of polite social circles. Do you happen to know what polite here relates to- intellectual elite?

Thak you

I happen to have a pretty good online dictionnary... I think this confirms your understanding of the word 'polite' in the above context. See sense #2.

Hi Waiti,

Would it be possible that you post across the link of the online dictionary you referred to in the above post.

Below given is some more explanation on what politeness referst to courtesy cambridge dictionary.

Antonia - my guess would be that the "Social Register" is more concerned with families that are influential, long-established in the community, wealthy, etc.; not necessarily intellectual! Intellectuals can sometimes be social radicals, and "social register" implies, to me at least, a more conservative, traditional elite.

It sure is the interlectual elite. I'm a garbage man and somebody on my route through one out and it has the hole Bush family in it with the schools they gradiated - Harvard and Yale! I couldn't find Donald Tromp or Paris Hilton who are both very well off and part of polite society but their not interlectuals so I wasnt surprized to see them not bein in it.
