Vocabulary

soccer terms

Hi,

(1) What do you call an assistant referee whose job is to "operate" a (carry-on) digital display (can't think of a better term, see my question below) letting the fans know the substitute and player in and out? I often see the brand HUBLOT on such digital displays....

(2) What do you call such a digital display (showing the pairs substitute+player out, or extra [stoppage] time)?

Hope my queries make sense

Thanks!

(1) He is called 'the fourth official', and is fully qualified to take charge of the match in the event of the referee's injury or inability to continue. (2) I've only heard it called 'the fourth official's board', 'the substitutes' board' or 'the added time board'. Rover

No, we don't.

The referee is the dude who runs round the pitch blowing his whistle.
