Soccer ball World Cup oddities

The soccerball World Cup is nearly upon us.
The two trophies which have been used are both very ugly. The gold colour doesn't help; I think silver is best for a trophy.

The first World Cup was eventually called the Jules Rimet Trophy, even though Jules Rimet Cup would have been more appropriate, as it is a cup (ie you can drink from it).
The current one has written on it FIFA World Cup - even though it is not a cup. And why did the French Organization FIFA use the English phrase instead of Coupe Mondiale. Was it a fiver a letter?

I'm hoping that one of the 4 teams that have won the latter cup twice will win it again this time. Then we can have a new one in 2014.

Being a cup does not stop it being a trophy.

The competition is the "FIFA World Cup" the trophy is the "FIFA World Cup Trophy".

Would you reaasign the metal medals in, for instance, the Olympics with silver for the winner.
I think the idea is that the winner's trophy is made of more valuable metal than that used for second and third (if awarded). The gold, siver and bronze follow the example of coinage.

The French phrase is "la Coupe du Monde", which would be even more expensive and space-consuming.
Looking at the FIFA website it seems that "the FIFA World Cup" and "la Coupe du Monde" refer to the competition as well as or rather than the trophy. It is certainly the case that in general soccer-chatter "World Cup" refers mainly to the competition. A team that fails to qualify for the final stages or is beaten in any stage except the final match will be described as "out of the World Cup", that is "out of the competition".
On the FIFA website the trophy is "Le trophée de la Coupe du Monde" or "The FIFA World Cup Trophy".
FIFA has just ordered a box for the trophy.
