So...as to

a. Would you be so kind as to let me in/explain things, etc.

b. Would you be so kind to let me in/explain things, etc.





Are both correct and interchangeable? I see both written, but I feel only 'as to' is correct, confirmed by the difference in meaning here:



c. He was so scared to run away. (he was scared of running away)

d. He was so scared as to run away. (he was scared; therefore, he ran away)
