So, with or without a comma.

If I were writing.

'I felt too tired to make another similarly draining call, but I had to. So without breaking stride, I dialled my parent's number straightaway.'

Would you think it would be best to put a comma after 'So' or not?

It’s optional: if you intend without breaking stride to be parenthetical, then use the comma. Also, write parents’. (If you’re referring just to one of your parents, it would be more natural to say, for example, my father’s number.)
