"I bribed him so that he lied." Incorrect. "I bribed him to lie" would be better.

"I bribed him so that he would lie." Correct.

What is te difference in meanng between the two sentences ? Now, there's no difference.

In terms of grammar, I don't think I'd call this definitely incorrect.

In terms of meaning, he actually lied.


"I bribed him so that he would lie."

He was willing to lie. We don't know if he actually lied or not.

"bribed" and "lied' are both in the simple present. But the two happened at two different points in time. Shouldn't we use "would" before "lied" because he was yet to lie when I bribed him ? So at point of bribing him, his lying was a future event.
