So [such] many characters

Hello everyone. I have a question.

Regarding the following two sentences:

(A) There are so many characters in Chinese that many foreigners have difficulty learning the language.

(B) There are such many characters in Chinese that many foreigners have difficulty learning the language.

I don't think there's is a problem with (A), but (B) sounds quite odd to me. What do you think? I know that the such + adjective + noun construction is frequently used in English, but I have the feeling that it is not the case with this particular case. Am I correct? If so, I'd like to know if there are any grammatical rules behind it.
