So I want to give the/a toast to them.

Obama proposes a toast at the end of his speech at White House Coresspondents' Dinner.

At 20:33 of the video below, Obama says:
"So I want to give a toast to them." (According to the caption provided in the video.)

But somehow I hear "the toast" as opposed to "a toast".

Which is right? If indeed he said "the toast", why?
