So goes

Could somebody explain to me the usage of this phrase "so goes ...", which I see often, and don't quite get?

As Google Goes, So Goes the Nation.

“Most people are religious because they’re raised to be. They’re indoctrinated by their parents.”

So goes the rationale of my nonreligious friends.
