So far

Hi.
"So far, both sides have moved logically, steering undeveloped pieces toward the center."

What's the difference between so far & untill now?

Top answer

'Until now' indicates that a change is about to occur; 'so far' does not tell us certainly whether the action will continue or a change will occur.

So if I wnt to translate a sentence containing so far, I should use the present tense form, and when translating one containing 'until now', I should use the past tense?

No, that is not relevant.

So far, I have never seen a purple cow (and I am still looking for one).
Until now, I have never seen a purple cow (but now I see one!)
