So as to vs. in order to vs. so that S+will ...

I am a Japanese teacher of English. What I'd like to know is which is the most casual of the sentences below.

1) I did not tell the truth in order not to hurt my mother.

2) I did not tell the truth so as not to hurt my mother.

3) I did not tell the truth so that I would not hurt my mother.

Those are all quite formal and rather stilted, Anon. A less formal version would be this: I didn't tell the truth, because I didn't want to hurt my mother.
