so

Hello, everyone, ..

Can we use so .. as to .. to express sufficient extent with verbs?
I know, for example, we can say:

He was so foolish as to carry out that stunt.
He was so confident as to stand up to his boss.
She is so eager to win as to practice everyday.

But is the following sentence possible?

He so worked yesterday as to probably have been tired by the time he got home.

Thank you.

Top answer

She is so eager to win as to practice everyday. These seem marginal to me. He so worked yesterday as to probably have been tired by the time he got home.

  • She is so eager to win as to practice everyday.
  • These seem marginal to me.
  • He so worked yesterday as to probably have been tired by the time he got home.
  • No, it is very unnatural.

He was foolish enough to carry out that stunt.
He was confident enough to stand up to his boss.
She is so eager to win that she practices every day.

He worked very hard yesterday, so he probably would have been tired by the time he got home.
