'so'

'He was sick, so was I / so I was.'
I do understand such sentences, but I don't know how to use it by my own. Does anybody have a good explanation to this?
Hope you know what I mean.

Thank you.

But I guess I have some difficulties with the punctuation.
If I want to do it in one sentence, is a comma and an 'and' needed?
I am tall, and so are you. (Would: I am tall, so are you. or I am tall so are you. be wrong?)

Here are the correct variants.

I am tall. So are you. (two sentences)
I am tall; so are you. (semi-colon)
I am tall, and so are you. (comma, and)
I am tall. And so are you. (two sentences with And)

The last one is just borderline correct. Some style manuals claim that it is wrong.

Is this correct?
Or should it be:
If I had to guess, I would probably be saying 6 or 4. ?
Thanks!

I don't even have a grammar book anymore.
We used to work with these, but these books were about grammar like verbs 'be' or 'have' and 'do/does' haha..
Our teacher is not very into grammar stuff, so we have been reading a lot and actually it has really helped. I mean I have gotten to know all tenses and a lot vocabulary and just the basic English
