Sneeze = "Bless you!"

Why do people say "bless you" when somebody sneezes? I'm just curious...

In Italy, we say "Salute" that translated is "Health".... Et-chooo! - Health!
LOL, "Bless you" is funny though.

Yep, that's what happens when there's an S sound followed by a Y sound: S+Y.
I don't think everyone does that, but I do (not too exaggerated though).

I grew up saying "Gesundheit" instead of "Bless you", but this may be something that is more common in certain areas of the US than in others. Gesundheit means 'health' in German, but in the US it is simply something you say when someone sneez
